Colonized in 1703 by the three Gélinas brothers, the village of Yamachiche developed at the junction of Route 138 and Route 153 toward Shawinigan. The construction of the Chemin du Roy (King’s Road) a few years later reinforced its strategic role as a key passage between Quebec City and Montreal.

Unique in its kind, Yamachiche possesses a rich cultural heritage shaped by the arrival of Acadian settlers expelled by the British and loyalists from the United States, primarily from Massachusetts, between 1765 and 1790. Beautiful historic homes still stand today, bearing witness to this significant chapter of history.

Yamachiche is also a prime location to witness the breathtaking spectacle of hundreds of thousands of migratory birds that rest on Lake Saint-Pierre and the surrounding lands every spring and fall. Not to mention the Réserve naturelle de Pointe-Yamachiche natural reserve, where you can observe over 300 species of birds, while enjoying the scenery on a hike leading to a footbridge with stilts and a lookout point for a breathtaking view. A true natural gem!
