Halfway between Quebec City and Montreal, Louiseville was founded in 1665 when Charles Du Jay, Viscount of Manereuil, settled at the mouth of the great Rivière du Loup river with soldiers and officers from the Carignan-Salières Regiment, within the Rivière-du-Loup seigneury. It was only in 1879 that the name Louiseville was officially adopted, in honour of Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll (1848–1939), the sixth child of Queen Victoria and wife of the Governor General of Canada.

Over the years, the community developed with the arrival of the railway and industrialization, leading to the establishment of mills, sawmills and other manufacturing industries in the region. At the same time, agriculture remained a key part of the economy, particularly with a specialization in dairy and poultry production.

Full of vitality, Louiseville proves that it is possible to preserve cultural roots while innovating to meet modern challenges. From historic sites and monuments to the Domaine du Lac St-Pierre outfitter, the Club de golf Louiseville golf club and the snowshoe trails along the river, this village core blends heritage, recreation and nature for a memorable adventure in Mauricie!
