Founded in 1640 under the seigneury of Chavigny, Deschambault took on the name we know today when Jacques-Alexis Fleury, Sieur Deschambault, married the heiress of the seigneury and became its owner in 1683 through a land exchange. For many years, the Saint Lawrence River remained the only way to access the village, which developed on a headland overlooking the river.

Historic landmarks from the early days of the community are still visible today, starting with the Vieux Presbytère de Deschambault, built in 1815 and the Magasin Général Deschambault, established in 1866, where visitors can step back in time.

Merged with Grondines since 2002, the village of Deschambault is now known as the municipality of Deschambault-Grondines. It offers a variety of attractions, including a public market, local farms, a cheese factory, a chocolate shop, an ice cream shop, a coffee roastery and an artisan bakery. Not to mention the bistros and restaurants that provide a unique culinary experience in a picturesque setting on the banks of the river!
