Welcome to Batiscan, a municipality on the northwest shore of the St. Lawrence River, just a few kilometres south of the river that shares its name, in the Mauricie region.
The seigneury of Batiscan, founded in 1639, was granted to the Jesuits, who established a settlement to evangelize and help settle Indigenous communities. Over the centuries, agriculture, forestry and fishing made it a prosperous place to live. Today, this heritage town is recognized as one of Quebec’s most beautiful villages.
Once a key trading hub between Quebec City and Montreal, Batiscan still bears traces of its past while offering a variety of recreational and tourism activities. Visitors can enjoy boating, sport fishing or exploring historical sites such as the Vieux Presbytère de Batiscan. The village’s houses, lined up uniformly along one side of the main street, offer a stunning panoramic view of the St. Lawrence River – a sight sure to impress!
